CANADA’S TAJON BUCHANAN SAYS SURGERY ON BROKEN TIBIA WAS SUCCESS
Tajon Buchanan has rejoined his teammates and shared a message to fans after breaking his tibia earlier this week.
The Canadian national team winger was injured during training on Tuesday ahead of a quarterfinal match against Venezuela at the Copa America.
The 25-year-old had surgery on Wednesday and wrote on Instagram that the operation was a success.
“Lost for words,” Buchanan wrote. “Just want to say thank you for all the love and support. Operation was successful and road to recovery starts now. Comeback about to be crazy. Trust me.”
Players and staff from the Canadian national team welcomed Buchanan back to their hotel on Thursday with a standing ovation. Buchanan walked into the hotel on crutches and his entire right leg was wrapped in a cast.
Canada returns to the pitch Friday for a match against Venezuela at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Buchanan has been capped 40 times by Canada, including featuring in all three games at the Copa. He has scored four times for his nation.
The Brampton, Ont., native joined Inter Milan from Belgium’s Club Brugge in the January transfer window.
