SWAYMAN LIKELY TO MISS TRAINING CAMP IN CONTRACT HOLDOUT.

There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the topic of Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman this summer, but that talk has truly reached a fever pitch this week after Swayman was notably absent from the Bruins annual charity golf event.

Swayman’s absence from the event has once again put his contract negotiations front and center and there now seems to be a growing belief that the young National Hockey League goaltender could miss important time during his contract holdout.

During a recent episode of the Bruins Rinkside podcast, Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa indicated that he would not be surprised if this holdout from Swayman extends beyond the start of training camp.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if this goes into camp and he’s not signed,” said Shinzawa on Bruins Rinkside. “I think we’ve come to know Jeremy as someone who is very sure of himself, very confident, very secure in what he’s done and what he can be.”

While Swayman may be confident in his worth, Shinzawa also sees things from the perspective of the Bruins who have never seen Swayman perform as a number one goaltender over the course of a full regular season.

“That said he has literally never been a number one regular season goalie,” added Shinzawa. “There’s no comparable there aside from Vasilevsky and he had already has two years of number one regular season performance.”

There have been reports that Swayman and his camp are seeking a contract that would be comparable to the one signed by Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy, an 8 year deal at an average annual value and cap hit of $9.5 million per season, but Shinzawa doesn’t believe Swyaman will get what he’s looking for.

“It’s just bad timing for Jeremy… I don’t see it happening in terms of a real big number,” said Shinzawa.

Both sides appear to be firmly entrenched in their position and it is for this reason that Shinzawa believes that Swayman is likely to miss important time as the Bruins prepare for the upcoming NHL season.

“It’s gonna come down to the pressure of missing time,” said Shinzawa in conclusion.

That may not be what Bruins fans were hoping to hear, but it sounds like where we are headed.
