RED WINGS SIGN JACK CAMPBELL, SHELDON DRIES
The Detroit Red Wings continued to be busy Monday afternoon, signing a pair of veterans who spent time in the AHL last season.
The club announced they signed goaltender Jack Campbell to a one-year contract worth $775,000.
The 32-year-old netminder spent the last two seasons with the Edmonton Oilers after signing a five-year, $25 million contract ahead of the 2022-23 season. However, after a poor first season with the Oilers, Campbell struggled to start the 2023-24 campaign, and was placed on waivers in early November before being sent down to the Bakersfield Condors.
He would go 18-13-1 in 33 appearances with the Condors last season, posting a .918 SV % and 2.63 GAA.
In eight NHL seasons, Campbell has a 93-52-18 record in 176 appearances with the Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings.
Also, the Red Wings signed forward Sheldon Dries to a two-year, two-way contract. Last season, Dries played for the Vancouver Canucks’ AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, scoring 29 goals and 23 assists for 52 points in 55 games.
In five NHL seasons, Dries, an undrafted center, has 16 goals and 10 assists for 26 points in 122 career regular-season games with the Canucks and Colorado Avalanche.
In the minors, Dries has compiled 113 goals and 91 assists for 204 points in 274 career regular-season AHL games.
The Red Wings went 41-32-8 with 91 points, falling just short of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the eighth consecutive season. Detroit has also not won a playoff series since defeating the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the 2013 playoffs.
