BOSTON BRUINS’ BRAD MARCHAND UNDERWENT THREE SURGERIES THIS SUMMER

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand has undergone three surgeries this summer for his elbow (torn tendon), groin, and abdominal.

As a result, Marchand will not miss any time and is on track to play at the start of the season. Marchand played through an elbow injury all of 2023-24, while the other two injuries happened late in the 2023-24 regular season and playoffs.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia native scored 29 goals and 67 points in 82 games last season, the ninth straight season Marchand has hit the 60-point mark. Marchand racked up three goals and seven assists for 10 points and a plus-2 rating in 11 playoff games for the Bruins before they were eliminated by the Stanley Cup champions, Florida Panthers.

Prior to the 2023-24 campaign, Marchand was named the 19th captain in Bruins history following the retirement of Patrice Bergeron, etching his name into franchise history among all-time greats Ray Bourque, Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Milt Schmidt, Johnny Bucyk, and Joe Thornton. Marchand is currently the longest-tenured Bruin and the last of the “old guard” who won the Stanley Cup with the team in 2011 beating the Vancouver Canucks.

In 1,029 games, the 36-year-old has scored 401 goals and 929 points, including scoring 56 goals and 138 points in 156 career playoff appearances.

Marchand was oringally selected No. 71 overall in the 2006 NHL Draft and registered a point per game with the Moncton Wildcats, Val-d’Or Foruers and Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Martimies Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In 245 games he tallied 102 goals and 146 assists for 248 points, he captured the QMJHL Championship with Moncton in 2006.
